Mission note - Yi Dahn : a letter for the passersby and the neighbors

well, I printed this letter in A4 and now giving everybody who's looking at me very curiously or asking me some questions. 일본인들은 '외부 침략'에 너무 식겁들하셔서... ^^;

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

How do you do, my name is Yi Dahn, an artist from Korea.

Now I’m staying for a month in <alternative space FLAT> in Higashinari-Ku 3-10-2, doing an art project called <project HOUSE>.

<Alternative space FLAT> is a space holding various art activities - for example, an art exhibition, a play, a seminar, etc. <Flat> would make this project as a starting point to introduce itself to neighbors around and communicate with them.

<project HOUSE> is an exchange residential art project that a Japanese artist live in a gallery in korea, and a Korean artist living in Japan for a month, making art performances and installation searching the area around and communicating with neighbors.

The period of the project is from Oct 4th to 29th, and opening of the exhibition is Nov 6th(fri) 6:00pm. The exhibition ends on Nov 24th.

What I’m doing now is <Mission Project>, one of our main projects of <project HOUSE>. This is a project that the two artists give each other a phrase of proverb, idiom, or superstition (of which meaning foreigners hard to guess) as a mission. Each artist must accomplish the phrase 'literally', and guess the true meaning after completing the mission.

The purpose of this project is to understand each other country’s culture, and also to make audience to refresh their “ordinary” life and ways of thinking via their own self-portrait, reflected by the “alien” artists, so as to realize and discover the new side of their own figures.

So, some questions I ask you or the action I’m doing might be somewhat and ridiculous and silly. I hope you could understand, excuse, and enjoy this “stupid” process.

HOUSE dialy 01 - Akihito

Mission#2 :

Boiling tea on a navel

: Japanese proverb

(What the hell is this -_-;)

Preparing the performance anyway

Went to the nearest park, and met cute kids playing soccer... explained about the projects.

Setting (somewhat stupid) sign, saying "now boiling tea by my navel"

And set cameras

Doing performances in ordinary life,
especially silly things like this,
always needs some guts for me.

But the jolly kids cheered me up,
watching my stupid performance till the end.

Thank you very much.

Here's the process (video captures) :

First, put some tea (bought in 100yen shop) in a teapot,

Second, pour boiling water (thanx, Aki!!)

... and lie down,

Third, place the teapot on the navel,

...which was TOO hot,

So I gave up placing it on my bare skin...

Forth, wait until the tea is ready,

wait,

wait,

wait,

wait,

wait,

wait,

wait,

...

...which was still hot.

$*##*@&^#%&#!!!

Fifth, pour the tea in the cup,

(See my "ambitious teacup" found in 100yen shop!!!)

Sixth, enjoy the tee in Japanese style.

Hmmmmm.........

Ahhhhhhhhh....

 = very delicious?
= no pain, no gain???
......
           -_-;;;;;;;;;;

In fact, the performance was like this :

Anyway,
Thank you very much, soccer  boys.
I'll post your pic on my map work!!!
